World Kidney Day was held this year on 9th March and I celebrated the event in Gloucester to help raise awareness with the people of our great city. We remembered all the marvellous heroes who have donated their kidneys (and other organs) to save the lives of very ill people.
Dame Janet Trotter unveiled a giant golden heart at Gloucester Royal Hospital. Suspended from the atrium ceiling, it’s made up of thousands of small hearts, each with an inscription. We humans are very lucky as we can live with only one kidney, meaning almost anyone can register to donate their other! If you’d like to find out more information about kidney donation, please visit the World Kidney Day website.
