Alongside last week’s magnificent news that Westgate Street is going to be revived thanks to government funding, I’m excited to announce that conservation work will begin any day on St Oswald’s Priory.
The works being carried out include placing turf on top of the walls to help reduce stone deterioration alongside stabilisation and mortar repairs. All work will be carried out thanks to a £25,000 grant from the Covid Recovery Fund, which should cover some long and short-term works.
In the future, the conservation team at Gloucester City Council would like to see lights installed around the priory in some form, but it’s estimated that this cost will fall outside of the sum provided by the Covid Recovery Fund. I’d like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to the conservation team who are helping to restore this wonderful landmark, I cannot wait to see our wonderful city flourish again.
