I attended a very exciting event at the end of May, it was the Mayor Making Ceremony for Gloucester City Council. I attended in my specialist capacity as Town Crier and Freeman of the City to watch Steve Morgan be appointed as our wonderful new mayor.
Neil Hampson, our outgoing mayor, graciously handed over the reigns to Steve Morgan, who will see us through 2017 and into 2018. Responsible for charing city council meetings and fundraising within the community, I’m sure he’ll be a great asset to Gloucester.
Did you know, the first Mayor of Gloucester was recorded in 1228? Traditionally, since 1483 the city council has appointed a new mayor at its annual council.
